OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences (ADG/SHS), and direct supervision of the Chief of Inclusion, Rights and Intercultural Dialogue Section, and the Programme Specialist in charge of the Silk Roads Programme, the incumbent shall perform a full range of administrative and communication support tasks for the smooth and efficient organization and delivery of the Silk Roads and Intercultural Dialogue Programmes.


More particularly, s/he will:

Contribute to the daily implementation of the Silk Roads and Intercultural Dialogue Programme activities;
Coordinate the organization of events and meetings of the Silk Roads & Intercultural Dialogue Programmes and assist the Programme Specialist by providing administrative and substantive support including proposing agenda topics, researching and drafting meeting minutes and summaries, handling logistics, preparing budgets, and facilitating stakeholder engagement;
Ensure the communication and outreach activities of the Silk Roads programme and the Silk Roads Online Platform in English and French, and in coordination with SHS communication officer, assist in production of promotional materials of the Silk Roads Programmes and support the editorial work of the Silk Roads Online Platform;

Assure and coordinate the "call for proposals", "submission management", and "evaluation process", "winners' proclamation" of the Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads photo contest.

Follow up and coordinate the publication of the photo albums of the photo contest. Contribute to the communication and outreach of the photo contest;
Liaise and maintain collaborative contact with stakeholders, including with the International Network of Focal Points of the Silk Roads Programme;
Assist the programme specialist in drafting of reports, memos, and implement actions following events and activities;
Assure administrative tasks for the programme including identification of needs, definition of priorities and agendas, and supervising interns in collaboration with the Programme Specialist and Chief of Section;

Additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work of the Inclusion, Rights and Intercultural Dialogue Section.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in social and human sciences, communications, media or closely related field(s).

Work Experience


Minimum two (2) years of relevant work experience, of which preferably one (1) year is acquired operating with international projects and/or organizations.

Experience in advocacy or influencing.

Skills & Competencies


Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to draft clearly and concisely for different types of audiences and different platforms.

Good organizational and planning skills, and an ability to priorities and meet established deadlines.


Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to maintain effective working relations within a multi-cultural environment and with partners outside of the organization.

Ability to work effectively under pressure, to manage heavy workload.

Ability to establish excellent working relationships within a multicultural team.

Excellent IT skills, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Languages

Excellent knowledge (oral and written) of English or French and good knowledge (oral and written) of the other.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Languages

Good knowledge of another UNESCO language (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish and Russian).

UNESCO's salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 74,767.57 US $.
