    Établissement recruteur:
  • IMT Atlantique is a leading institution that emerged from the merger of Télécom Bretagne and Mines Nantes in 2017, forming a prominent engineering school and international research center. Operating across campuses in Brest, Nantes, and Rennes, IMT Atlantique is dedicated to combining digital technology and energy to bring about societal and industrial transformations through education, research, and innovation. Affiliated with the Mines-Télécom Institute, the institution guides approximately 2300 students annually in engineering, master's, and doctoral programs, playing a pivotal role in applied research related to energy and environmental systems.

Description:

  • Many studies suggest a link between fine particles exposure and health and environmental consequences. Since fine/ultrafine particles can be emitted during combustion processes, it is imperative to employ effective flue gas treatment systems to collect them. Spray scrubbers are among the most used flue gas cleaning processes in industry, primarily for acid gas absorption and temperature regulation. Although these systems are not designed for dust removal, it has been shown that it is possible to improve the collection of particles by wet scrubbers by adjusting its operating parameters.
  • As part of the research project between IMT Atlantique and industrial partner Séché Environnement, a downscaled scrubber was designed and installed in a waste incineration plant to be fed with real flue gases and to study the collection of particles by these industrial systems. To characterize the flow structure inside the scrubber and analyse phenomena at local scale (droplet evaporation/condensation, interaction particle/droplets), a CFD study will be carried out.

The main tasks include:

  • Literature review on particle collection by spray scrubbers (experimental and CFD)
  • 2D/3D simulations of gas flow inside the scrubber
  • 2D/3D simulations of multiphase flow (air/water/particles) inside the scrubber
  • Conducting insitu tests for measuring the particle collection efficiency of the scrubber
  • Validation of CFD simulations by comparing them to experimental results
  • Preparation of a formal report of your findings

Profil:

  • Master in process/environmental/chemical engineering or Fluid Mechanics
  • Knowledge of Ansys Fluent (Fluid Simulation Software) is mandatory
    Prise de fonction:
  • 01/04/2024
