    Description

    I. Background

    Theproject, titled "Regional Germplasm Hub for Vegetatively Propagated Crops@ KEPHIS Muguga," seeks to establish a Regional Germplasm Hub (RGH) atKEPHIS Muguga. A critical aspect of this initiative is the distribution ofpathogen-free planting materials across regions to support breeding programs.The pipeline for the supply and distribution of pathogen-free planting materialfor Vegetatively Propagated Crops (VPC) requires proper costing and integrationinto a business model with adequate cost recoveries which ensures asustainability of the operational activities of the RGH. To address this, it isimperative to assist KEPHIS in developing a comprehensive business plan andpartnership models. This multifaceted approach is crucial to ensuring thesustainability of the project and the efficient delivery of pathogen-freeplanting materials.

    As part of the development of businessplan, the team plans to recruit a consultant to be based at KEPHIS to collectthe data continuously as we plan to collect large data from various keystakeholders. In addition, we will also estimate return on investment in theinitiative from this project. Therefore, the projects require the engagement ofbusiness expertise.

    II. Objective

    Majorresponsibilities are as follows:

    ·Conduct desk research to analyze thecurrent operational and functional activities within the germplasm distributionsystem.

    ·Conduct desk research to assess theprocesses and costs associated with indexing and cleaning various RTBvarieties.

    ·Investigate existing partnershipmodels and value propositions relevant to the Regional Germplasm Hub (RGH)through desk research.

    ·Provide assistance in developingdata collection tools and gathering relevant data from key stakeholders for thedevelopment of the business plan and business model for the RGH.

    ·Regularly update the internationalconsultant overseeing the RGH business plan and maintain communication with thedesignated CIP contact person.

    ·Calculate the return on investmentresulting from investments in both the RGH and RTB seed system within the EastAfrican region.

    ·Prepare working papers, briefs, andblog posts based on research findings.

    ·Assist in conducting meetings andworkshop for the development of the business plan for RGH.

    III. Deliverables

    ·Data collection tools and relevantdata for financial analysis.

    ·Preliminary report on the businessplan and return on investment study.

    ·Final report on the business plan.

    ·Final report on return on investmentstudy.

    ·Working paper, blogs and briefs onbusiness models, partnerships models and return on investments.

    Requirements

    ·Bachelor'sdegree in Agricultural Economics.

    ·Atleast 3 years of experience.

    ·Specialtyin Agricultural economics, cost benefit analysis and applied econometrics.

    ·Workedon return on investment on roots, tubers and/or banana seed system.

    ·Skillsin Applied Econometrics, Return on investment and financial cost-benefitanalysis.

    ·Advancedknowledge of database work.

    ·Advancedlevel of MS Office and STATA

    ·Advancedwritten and oral communication skills in English.
