Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas.

It is also part of the UK's France Network, including offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseilles and representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE).

The British Embassy is currently looking for a Deputy Post Security Manager (AO graded), reporting to the Post Security Manager and the Regional Security Overseas Manager.


The jobholder will be responsible for Security Clearances in the France Network and will be Line Managing a Team of 10 Security Officers and making sure that shift is covered at all times.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Processing, monitoring and renewing security clearances for all locally engaged staff in the France network, contractors, honorary consuls and external drivers;
  • Liaising with external contacts such as the Prefecture, police and gendarmes and working closely with external contacts on events and security issues;
  • Directly line managing 10 security officers;
  • Creating and updating a detailed and at times, complex roster system;
  • Processing monthly pay variables for the security team;
  • Maintaining and updating all administrative areas such as the shared area, share point, logs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Making staff passes and delivering security briefings;
  • Deputy to the Post Security Manager and providing cover for the PSM in his absence. Taking on such tasks as dealing with breaches, event planning and managing the wider team;
  • Working closely with the PSM for all major Embassy events to ensure that all security measures are covered and that security event plans are completed;
  • Working closely with the PSM and ROSM to ensure that all visits from the OSA and external contacts are prepared for well in advance. This includes arranging programmes, organising meetings and taking minutes;
  • Dealing with all security issues and working closely with the Facilities Management Team;
  • Taking part in the Post Security Committee.
  • Planning and doing Security Visit in the Network.
  • Training coordinator for the security team including First Aid, Fire Evacuation, and L&D opportunities.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Full professional proficiency in English and French (written and spoken, minimum of C2 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Previous experience in team management;
  • Past experience in a police/military/security environment;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Highly motivated and autonomous with excellent organisational skills;
  • Ability to manage own workload and team's workload;
  • Excellent Team worker, motivating and building productive working relationships;
  • Flexible with a "can do" outlook;
  • Able to carry out everyday tasks with strategic awareness.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience of staff management in a security related role in a multisite organisation;
  • Previous office management / administrative experience.
