    OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST


    Duration and Location:

    The position is a six-month contract, with the possibility of extension, and will be based at Paris. Some travel to participating countries may be required. The anticipated contract start date is 1 June 2024.

    Objective:

    The GSHS/G-SHPPS coordination focal point is expected to oversee and coordinate the conduct of a Global school health survey across 26 countries, working closely with country and regional teams from UNESCO, WHO, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, other participating ministries, and government agencies, as well as other designated multilateral organizations. The primary goal is to ensure the successful implementation of the survey, data collection, and reporting in accordance with established guidelines and standards.

    The GSHS/G-SHPPS coordination focal point will be positioned within the Health and Education section, providing technical programme support to all coordination-related needs of the GSHS and G-SHPPS surveys across select O3 program countries.

    Key Responsibilities:

    In addition to other tasks assigned by the Regional Health Advisor that are in line with the role, the incumbent will;

  • Lead operational coordination efforts for the planning and implementation of the GSHS/G-SHPPS surveys in close consultation with the core coordination group, regional and field office colleagues.
  • Follow-up and support country and regional teams to achieve the conduct of all planning and implementation activities highlighted on the survey implementation roadmap.
  • Support the core coordination team through the provision of timely inputs, tools, and process advisory to facilitate survey planning, implementation, and monitoring across implementing countries.
  • Collaborate with country and regional teams from UNESCO, WHO, and ministries of Health and Education to develop survey implementation plans tailored to each country's context and needs.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to ensure the quality and consistency of survey methodologies, tools, and data collection processes across all participating countries.

  • Monitor the progress of survey activities in each country, identify challenges, and provide timely support and solutions to address issues as they arise.
  • Facilitate regular communication and coordination among all stakeholders involved in the survey, including organizing meetings, sharing updates, and fostering collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and data protection regulations throughout the survey process, including supporting countries to obtain necessary approvals and permissions.
  • Support countries to transmit completed survey materials to WHO for data processing and analysis.
  • Follow-up with countries on the prepaparation of survey reports, including interpretation of findings and recommnedations for action, in coordination with relevant stakeholders.

  • All participating countries with established and functional steering committees for the GSHS/G-SHPPS surveys.
  • All participating countries with ethical clearance and survey approvals from their respective authorities.
  • All participating countries shared sample frames comprising of all schools with WHO for sample selection.
  • All materials procured, parental permissions obtained, and survey personnel trained ahead of survey implementation timelines.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in coordinating large-scale survey projects, preferably in the field of public health or education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of survey methodologies, data collection techniques, and data management practices.
  • Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, and diverse cultural contexts.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant statistical software and data analysis tools.
  • Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, education, or a related field is preferred.
